Smallmouth Bass

Smallmouth bass are generally brownish green with red eyes and dark brown vertical bands. Their teeth are like sandpaper, which is why anglers commonly hold them by the jaw when handling them.

Known for: Smallmouth bass are known for the excellent fight they put up for their size.
Habitat: Smallmouth bass are generally found in stumpy or rocky shorelines or reefs.
Spawning: Smallmouth bass spawn on gravel beds in the late spring.
Trivia: Smallmouth bass are not native to Manitoba, but have thrived since being introduced.

There have been over 1800 Master Angler smallmouth bass registered from Quesnel, Manigotagan, and Happy Lakes. That doesn’t even come close to the number that have been caught and not registered!
